2, 4, 6-trichloro [1, 3, 5] triazine (TCT) as a fast, inexpensive and highly efficient catalyst for acetalization of aromatic aldehydes

Abstract

This paper describes a simple, efficient and inexpensive method for transformation of aromatic aldehydes to corresponding dimethyl and/or diethyl acetals using TCT as catalyst. Comparing other knownmethods, thismethod is fast and effective without obligation of using ortho-esters as acetalization reagent. Also this new method is chemoselective for aromatic aldehydes versus aromatic ketones.
