A facile water mediated wittig reaction approach for the synthesis of bioactive aryl and benzyl cinnamates

Abstract

Aryl and Benzyl cinnamates are widespread in plant kingdom and have been known to possess diverse biological activity; antibacterial, antifungal, antitumor and anti-inflammatory, anti- rheumaticetc. Synthesis of aryl and Benzyl (E) cinnamate derivatives using water mediated wittig reaction approach results good yields normally ranging from 64-92% with high E-selectivity. Since water is inexpensive, extremely easy to handle and represent no environmental concerns.
