Abstract

The present work is the investigation of the influence of 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-propenone on the corrosion behaviour of aluminium in 1.0 M NaOH solution by weight loss (at 30℃ and 50℃ ), gasometric and electrochemical techniques. Experimental results revealed that inhibition efficiency increases with increasing inhibitor concentration up to a maximum of 77.5% and it decreased with increase of temperature .The best fit adsorbtion isotherm for the experimental data was Langmuir adsorption isotherm model at the studied temperatures. The mechanism of physical adsorption is proposed from the values of Ea, Qads and ΔGads . Tafel polarization analysis revealed that the studied compound is mixed type inhibitor. The data obtained from polarizationstudies, weight loss measurement and gasometric technique were in good agreement.
