Acute Myopericarditis due to Hepatitis E Virus Infection: The First Reported Case in the Western Hemisphere

Abstract

Hepatitis E is a single stranded RNA virus endemic to parts of Asia and Africa. Presentation ranges from asymptomatic to fulminant  . Extrahepatic manifestations include acute pancreatitis, Guillain- Barre syndrome, neuralgic amyotrophy, hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, glomerulonephritis, and mixed cryoglobulinemia.
