Abstract

Amixture ofAlCl3-ZnCl2 supported on silica gel has been found to be a new efficientmediumfor the synthesis of 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthene via condensation of aromatic aldehydes and dimedone under solvent-free condition with excellent yields.
