Abstract

Several 1 – tetra – O – acetyl – ( – D – galactosyl – 3 – aryl/H thiocarbamides (III) have been prepared by the interaction of tetra – O – acetyl – ( – D – galactosyl isothiocyanate (I) and aryl amines/ ammonia (II). All the products formed were well characterized by the spectral analysis and usual chemical transformations. These compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activities against various pathogenic bacteria like E. coli, S. aureus, P. vulgaris and P. aregenosa and fungi like A. niger and C. albicans. These compounds exhibit interesting activity as compared with standard drug at the same concentration.
