Abstract

Nine surface waters (samples) at different points along Oke-Afa Canal, Isolo lagos (figure 1.0) were analyzed for heavy metals to determine their level of pollution. The level of trace heavy metals in most of the samples were also above WHO standard; Cadmium (range; N.D-0.16mg/l) mean value 0.06mg/l; exceeds WHO standard. 0.003mg/l Nickel (range ND- 0.07 mg/l) Mean Value 0.05 mg/l exceeds WHO standard 0.02mg/l. lead (range; ND- 0.34mg/1) mean value 0.14mgl exceeds WHO standard drinking limit of 0.01mg/l, Zinc (range; ND- 1.98mg/l) MEAN VALUE 0.62 mg/l is the only heavy metal bellow WHO standard 3.0mg11 but presence of heavy metal shows the level of pollution in the canal.
