Impact of Severe Yellow Oleander Poisoning on Cardiac Function and Hemodynamics

Abstract

Poisoning is one of the major causes for suicidal deaths in developing countries including Sri Lanka. Yellow Oleander Poisoning (YOP) is one of the common poisonings in Eastern Province Sri Lanka. Ingestion of Yellow oleander seeds (YO) seeds results in poisoning similar to digitalis toxicity. Poisoning due to deliberate self-harm with seeds of yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana) results in significant morbidity and mortality.
