PICOT as a Dual Regulator of Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy and Inotropy

Yoram Etzion, Janet Ozer, Y

Abstract

The contractile function of the normal adult heart is able to adapt rapidly in response to increased systemic demand for blood supply. Moreover, the heart undergoes a growth process, known as hypertrophy, in response to increased workload. This adaptive response is aimed to augment cardiac pump function and decrease ventricular wall tension in the face of an increased workload.
