Remediation modelling and preconcentration of Cd (II) ions in aqueous media using polymer assisted ultrafiltration - A green analytical approach

Mamta Chhabra Sharma, Sandeep

Abstract

Abatch process for remediation and retention of Cd (II) ions from spiked wastewaters has been studied. This process is called PAU(PolymerAssistedUltrafiltration), and includes complexation ofCd (II) ionswith polymer poly(acrylic) acid - PAA, in order tomake this solution flowthrough an ultrafiltration polysulphone – PS membrane. The filtrate/ permeate (nearly free ofmetal), and feed concentration (with high complex concentration) are analysed.Effectof pHand loadingratio affectingpermeates concentration and complex formation, have been studied bymeans of ultrafiltration experiments. Complexationandmembraneultrafiltrationprocesses have beenmodeledwithHYPERCHEM8.0.8. PAU is an effective, feasible greenmethod for retention of heavymetals fromindustrial effluents.
