Abstract

Selective hydrolysis of isopropylidene ketals have been extensively used in the synthetic organic chemistry for synthesis of 1, 2 and 1, 3-diols. The selective hydrolysis of a terminal isopropylidene ketal in the presence of an internal isopropylidene ketal is a challenge and has immense importance in organic synthesis. The present review focuses on delineating various reagents scattered in the literature for the selective hydrolysis of terminal isopropylidene ketals. The literature in this review is covered until December 2008.
