Abstract

In a wide search program towards new and efficient antimicrobial agents, some of new N-benzyl piperidine-4-one derivatives were synthesized by the condensation of respective reagents (hydroxylamine hydrochloride, hydrazine hydrochloride, phenyl hydrazine, semicarbazide and thiosemicarbazide). The synthesized compounds were initially identified by their analytical and IR/mass spectral data. For all the synthesized compounds 1H and 13C NMR spectra were recorded at 500 MHz and 100.6 MHz respectively in DMSO. All the synthesized compounds were tested for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds showed very potent activity against the fungi, Aspergillus niger and the bacteria, Escherichia coli.
