Abstract
A novel method for the synthesis of 2,4-dihydroxy s ubstituted chalcones via aldol condensessions is introduced. In the presence of SOCl 2 /EtOH as a catalyst, Various substituted chalcones are synthesized by aldol condensation. The HCl is gener ated in situ by the reaction of SOCl 2 with absolute ethanol. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis.
