Thin layer chromatography separation study of certain metal cations with mixture of urea formaldehyde & cellulose as stationary phase system

Abstract

Various heavy metal ions such as Fe3+,Cu2+,VO2+,UO22+,Ni2+,Co2+, Ag+& Cr6+ have been chromatographed on thin layer of mixture of urea-formaldehyde & cellulose. SDS, urea & thiourea in in different concentration, ratios & at different pH used as mobile phases. Semiquantitative determination of UO22+ & Fe3+ by visual comparison of colour intensities & by spot–area measurement method has been attempted.
