Abstract
Geophysical field data obtained by vertical electrical sounding (VES) are often plagued by intrusion of noise. This often makes the analysis and classification of such data tedious and error prone. More so, The apparent resistivity values of the underground water in a given location is a critical parameter to classify water as either salt water (ρa < 5 Ω-m) or fresh water (ρa > 10 Ω-m). So, resistivity data were acquired in 12 locations withing the Niger- Delta region .The salt water regions, having a sharp descent from resistivity plot, were sufficiently delineated together with the fresh water regions ( having a gentle slope on the resistivity plot).
